Scattered Order and The Makers of the Dead Travel Fast

CAD Factory Sunday 26 July 2009

M Squared would like to thank Vic and Sarah of the CAD Factory, Shane, Chris and Tegan from Endgame Records, the bands: Cult of the Hidden Nerve, Karoshi, Mark Brown and Khaled Sabsabi, Sound engineer: Steve McMillan and everone else involved in what was a very special night of wonderful music.

For a group of people who last played together a quarter of a century ago, and for many there on the night, it was a Big Moment.

The Makers of the Dead Travel Fast (lineup: Shane Fahey, Peter Richardson, Steve Couri, Cat Coleman) played beneath a sensual collection of projected images by Tim Schultz. As mesmerising as ever, they unfurled a stream of beautifully realised, complex sound, with sinuous melodies flowing through their signature textured and atmospheric spaces. Playful, muscular, mysterious and with an ear securely tuned to that alternative place the rest of us only hear in occasional snatches.

Scattered Order Mark I (lineup: Michael Tee and Mitch Jones) took the dual approach of blowtorching some old favourites and, in the ensuing glare, bringing out some new tracks on a heavy duty forklift. By turns blistering and emotive, Jones and Tee were once again Masters of the Loading Dock, leaving a trail of smouldering concrete and enigmatic eddies of noise in their wake.

Scattered Order Mark 1 will step back out of their home studio in November for more live shows with A Cloakroom Assembly, who will be making their first live appearance and hopefully The Makers of the Dead Travel Fast will appear once again.
